To the readers of The Queercast, I’ve been trying to get this project off the ground for a few years now, but it’s been difficult because I am a disabled queer man due to an autoimmune disorder called Ankylosing Spondylitis that causes painful inflammation along my spine. I’ve been luckier than most because of the support of my father. Now, however, we are about to be evicted from our home and we are short on funds to get into an apartment. If we are unable to raise the funds we need by the end of next week, we don’t just lose our home, I lose my medical insurance which I desperately need to control this disease. Please consider donating to our fundraiser campaign, and if you can’t, help us get our story out. Thank you for you help.
In three-four days, my dad and I will be evicted from our home and at that point…I don’t know what’s going to happen to us. He’s a Vietnam Vet and he’s been taking care of me, his disabled son, for nearly a decade now because the pain and inflammation associated with my disease gets pretty bad. Many times I can’t even stand let alone walk to the bathroom, and these flares can last to varying degrees for as long as a month to a month in a half (3-4 week avg.). They happen many times throughout the year.
The fact is, I need help, which he has been providing for me. Now he needs help. Please share our story and/or give to our fundraising campaign. If you want to know more about me, check out my media project ‘The Queercast’ here on Facebook, and our new website www.thequeercast.org. I try not to let my illness get in the way of my dreams and goals which is what this project represents to me. This project is me.
